The guidelines I follow in my classroom are simple: be RESPECTFUL, be RESPONSIBLE, and be SAFE. The rules above are a poster I have displayed in my room. We go over our rules daily to ensure the students have a clear understand of what is expected in my classroom.
Respect is a moral lesson I think is just as important as any educational lesson my students will learn this year. I emphasize what it means to be respectful embedded in many of my lessons through examples. My hope is that at the end of the school year, my students will know how to respect themselves, each other, and our school.
Responsibility is something that is needed to learn at this young of a grade because it builds habits and a solid foundation for the many years of responsibly to come. We learn how to be responsible by having classroom duties, learning why it important to turn our homework in, and by doing what is asked by the teacher.
Safety is emphasized through the teaching of good citizenship, and what is meant by using safety in the classroom. We learn to treat the classroom and the earth with respect, and well as procedures to follow throughout daily activity.
